TOKYO — Prime Minister Junichiro Koizumi said Friday he believes his visits to the war-linked Yasukuni Shrine in Tokyo do not violate the Constitution, following a high court decision earlier in the day that ruled several of his past visits unconstitutional.
'I do not think my paying homage at Yasukuni violates the Constitution,' he told a meeting of the House of Representatives Budget Committee. 'I am not paying visits as an official duty. I have difficulty in understanding why they violate the Constitution,' he said."
